1 81

After spending a great deal of time figuring out the perfect diet plan and a smart workout program to utilize, you might figure that you have everything all lined up and ready to go for maximum success.

But, you may just be missing one critical factor that could really increase your overall success rate and send your results into overdrive.

What is this factor?

Surprisingly enough, Vitamin D.

Let’s give you the facts you need to know.

The Study

The study that brought about this information and started making researchers sit up and look more seriously at vitamin D as a weight loss aid was one funded out of the National Institute of Health, based out of the University of Minnesota.

In the study the researchers had two different testing groups participate by using calorie reduced diets, with one group having a higher level of vitamin D intake per day while the other group was what the researchers considered to be a deficit in vitamin D intake.

After 11 weeks of following the diet that provided a 750 calorie per day deficit, the researchers noted that those who had vitamin D levels that were higher showed an increase in overall weight loss results.

And that’s not the only impressive point to note, what’s more is that those who consumed enough vitamin D also showed greater overall fat loss from the abdominal region, which is a trouble spot that most individuals are trying to target.

Practical Applications

So for someone at home, if you’re currently on a calorie reduced diet, it would be a wise move to take a good look at your current vitamin D status and determine whether or not you may benefit from boosting your intake upwards.

Some of the top food sources that are rich in vitamin D to add to your diet include salmon, sardines, shrimp, cow’s milk, cod, and whole eggs.

Also note that you will increase your vitamin D intake any time you’re exposed to direct sunlight as well, so simply getting outside more often throughout the day can help to increase your nutrient status of vitamin D.

Your Take Home Message

So the take home message from this is that it’s never a good idea to overlook your micronutrient intake on your fat loss diet plan. While getting your proper calorie intake in line is definitely vital for success, you must make sure that you’re eating quality food sources that are going to provide you with all the major vitamins and minerals needed for health purposes.

If you do this, then you should see faster overall rates of weight loss and feel better as you go about the diet as well. Vitamin D is just one of the key nutrients needed for good health and as is in the case with this study, proves to be very beneficial for those seeking fat loss results.
